The Importance of Music

Hello Friends, it has been a very long time since I last spoke to you, I’ve missed you. I have been super busy with a new job and wedding plans…Yes folks, I’m getting married!!!!!!…and I’m enjoying every minute of it…it takes it toll sometimes and I get overwhelmed, but I always come back to being happy and super excited …

Something happened recently, that I must share…as we all know, being in a new job can be very stressful and overwhelming at times. There is the need to please and do everything perfect, getting along with new co-workers and getting familiar with the new environment.  At one point I found myself being unable to cope. It seemed like everything was going wrong and I couldn’t think straight. I was becoming increasingly annoyed at the simplest things and nothing seemed to make me happy…even though I was. I thought to myself, what is wrong? What is missing? I have everything I want at this point. I’m getting married to the love of my life, I have a great new job, I have hot body (I’ve been exercising J), my hair is on fleek, my family and fiancee are happy and healthy, my job was fine for the most part…what was the problem?

So one day I was going through some of my old computer files and I came across my music folder, and I found Flawless by Beyoncé (yasss…Beyoncé!) and I started to sing it, I got into it, i did the hand jesters and all (I got down – in my chair that is J) and it moved to another song, and I sang that one, and it went on and on for about an hour…and to tell you the truth, at the end of that hour, I felt happy again, I felt energized and more motivated….I thought to myself, wow, why didn’t I try this earlier?!

For those who know me, I love music, music is an integral part of who I am, I never however realized that music could be so much more than entertainment.

According to researchers, music is much more than entertainment, it provides several benefits to listeners:

Music Reliefs Pain

Listening to music can reduce chronic pain from a range of painful conditions, including osteoarthritis, disc problems and rheumatoid arthritis, by up to 21% and depression by up to 25%. Music therapy is used in hospitals to reduce the need for medication during childbirth, to decrease postoperative pain and complement the use of anesthesia during surgery.

Music Boots Immunity

Music can boost the immune function. Scientists explain that a particular type of music can create a positive and profound emotional experience, which leads to secretion of immune-boosting hormones. This helps contribute to a reduction in the factors responsible for illness. Listening to music or singing can also decrease levels of stress-related hormone cortisol.

Music improves Memory and aids Learning

Learning potential can be increased a minimum of five times by using this 60 beats per minute music. Bulgarian psychologist, Dr. George Lozanov proved that students were able to learn and retain foreign languages quicker, they through his methods, could learn and retain 1,000 words or phrases in one day. He has proven that foreign languages can be learned with 85-100% efficiency in only thirty days by using classical music pieces from the baroque period.

Speeds Post-Stroke Recovery

A daily portion of one’s favorite pop melodies, classical music or jazz can speed recovery from debilitating strokes, according to researchers. Music listening after stroke not only promotes behavioral recovery, but also induces fine-grained neuroanatomical changes in the recovering brain

Active listening amps up happiness

A recent study contradicts the old adage that actively trying to feel happier is useless. In a research by Ferguson and Sheldon (2013), participants who listened to upbeat classical compositions by Aaron Copland, while actively trying to feel happier, felt their moods lift more than those who passively listened to the music. This suggests that engaging with music, rather than allowing it to wash over us, gives the experience extra emotional power.

I could go on and on about the numerous benefits that listening to music provides. If you need a pick-me-up or you want to regain your will and improve your mood and outlook all together, listen to some happy uplifting music. You will definitely thank me later.

 Hope You Enjoyed 🙂

Song of the Week: 5 Songs Im Totally Loving!

Music is a drug like no other. No matter how depressed or down and out you may feel, it always makes you feel better, in ways a prescription would never be able to do. There are some songs that just take you back, let you feel young and hip again, and there are some songs that takes you back to that moment in your life when things were simple and easy.

We all have those songs that just manipulate us, whether by making us dance (sometimes very awkwardly), cry or just stand still and take it in. Music is a gift, a lifter of spirits, a cure for lonely days and an avenue for vicarious living.

There are so many songs out there, but there are few that I just can’t stop singing: Shake it Off by Taylor Swift, All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor, Bang, Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Chandelier by Sia and Let It Be by Labrinth.

…These are the songs that I am so into right now, so if you want to shake your groove thang, just hit play!

*Singing*… ‘I’m all about that bass’ Bout that bass, no treble…..

Hope You Enjoyed 🙂

Song of the Week You & I (Nobody In The World) by John Legend

OMG! This is such a beautiful song, it brought me to tears. I never thought that John could sing a more beautiful song than ‘All of Me’, but he blew it out of the water with You & I (Nobody In The World). It is a beautiful song that celebrates love in its purest form, having someone you love regardless of how they look or how imperfect they are. It also celebrates the woman, her flaws and imperfections. It reminds women that no matter how not cute or damaged or flawed you think you are, you are special and you mean the world to someone.

Listen to this song if you want a pick-me-up or you just want to hear the beautiful, melodious voice of the handsome John Legend, either way, you can’t go wrong.

Without further ado, here is a very beautiful song, and my new favorite, You & I (Nobody In The World).

Song of the Week Kiss by Prince

I love Prince, he has a certain kinda conviction that only a few persons can pull off. He is very interesting,…to say the least. He has a way about him…I mean, he wore heels and skinnies and he is not gay! …He is very talented and is the man behind a lot of my favorite songs. I am very intrigued by him and his obsession with purple, it is a nice color, but I don’t get it!… I guess I never will!

The song kiss has an epic video, it leaves nothing to the imagination and his abs, is just…ahhh…and that tank top…He pulled it off! The song, underneath his high pitch voice, is a very sexy song. It is the song you listen to when you just want to get in that head space, 😉 or when you want to be reminded that you don’t have to be a particular person, to be a particular person. The song is sexy, but it has an underlying meaning that I can relate to…be you, whatever that you is! And to never be afraid to get your inner self out, as long as you ‘act your age, and not your shoe size’ 🙂 …

Many persons are not familiar with Prince and his body of work, this is your chance to change that… Here is the unforgettable…Prince! (*singing* ‘You don’t have to be cool to rule my world’…)

You are welcome! 🙂

Song of the Week: I Can by Nas

Life, Life….Life is so hard, depressing, sad, difficult, unfair, unbearable and all the other terrible adjectives that escapes me right now….Life is well, life,… it is a roller coaster, it has ups and downs, phenomenal highs and depressing, dark lows. Maneuvering the day to day activities and responsibilities of life can be a lot, at times its feels like all the little things are going to strangle me to death, but, alas,..I am pressing on!

Being able to rise above depressing lows is an enormous feet, but listening to songs like “I Can” gets me moving. This song is very motivational, and perfectly suited for the low times. It makes you feel as if you are bigger than your problems and no matter what, I can, I can achieve anything if I work hard at it…

So, if you are feeling down, depressed and have lost your will to fight, hold on for four more minutes and listen to this song, it will get you right back on your feet and ready to fight again….

….Hands in the air,…sing!….”I Know I can, be what I wanna be, if I work hard on it, I’ll be where I wanna be”!

Hope you enjoyed 🙂 ….Selah!

Song of the Week: In Case by Demi Lovato

Happiness, sadness, anger, love, hate, fulfillment and disappointment are some of the beautiful and painful things that make up relationships, relationships that we treasure and hope will never fade. But unfortunately relationships are tumultuous as such its failure is more times guaranteed than its success…when a relationship end, we sometimes hold on to the chance, the smallest glimmer of hope that one day, it will be mended, we hold out hope…just in case…

‘In Case’ sums it all up perfectly, it talks about holding out and hoping just in case that special someone find their way back. I love this song as it is soft and emotional, it can easily be a classic. Demi Lovato has a powerhouse voice and she sounds fabulous on this record. She is fast becoming the Christina Aguilera of this generation…I love how she sings, how she puts her soul in every word she is saying.

If you are going through a rough patch or you lost your love and is having faith that he/she may come back, take a listen….

Here is Demi…

Song of the Week: Human by Christina Perri

This song is a great listen, if you are in a particular mood, it will bring you to tears. Human is that song that talks about the fragility of human beings and how much it takes to be human. The average person has around two major life changing bad moments in their lifespan, outside of the routine ups and downs, the challenges of living and trying get by day by day, the pressures of fulfilling inevitable requirements and trying to live up to the ever changing and progressively more unachievable demands of society.

With all that we have to bear and suffer through, we still are capable of having a fulfilling life, armed with the ability to get up after every fall. Human is the song you listen to when you want to be reminded that falling is a part of life and that no matter how we hurt, there is still hope, we can rise, we will rise because…we are only humans.

I love Christina Perri, she sings with such soul, like she has lived every word she is singing about…don’t just take my word for it, see it for yourself…Here is HUMAN!….

Hope You Enjoyed 🙂
