Song of the Week: A Long Walk by Jill Scott

Released in 2001, this song is soothing, and very mellow. I remember when this song came out, I sang it for days. It is the song that never gets old, the video, the lyrics, are all timeless. No matter what age or gender you are this song will get you moving and grooving. It is what most epic songs are about – love – and finding that one person that you deeply care about, regardless of their past, job title or status in society.

I love this song because when I listen to it; all my happy hormones are instantly activated, it makes me feel good and hopeful, that I too will find that someone that is worthy to “take a long walk around the park” with, like, no matter how bad things are, they will get better.

If you want to release your feel-good hormones, take a listen, you will be happy you did!

Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Shoegasm: 7 Shoes Every Woman Should Own

There are a few things every woman has in common: emotions (sometimes too much :)), the need for love and the love for fabulous footwear. Your choice of shoes may result in a fabulous outfit or a not-to-be-repeated disaster! Shoes can make or break an outfit!…We are bombarded with a huge variety from which to choose as such we oftentimes get confused and a lot of times, make choices that are not so cute or severely impractical.

Many women cannot afford to buy shoes of varying styles and colors; we have to buy shoes that will go for miles, shoes that are cute, comfortable, stylish and versatile.

Want to know which shoes you should own? …Not to worry, I got you covered: …

Ballet Flats

Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are must haves; they are extremely versatile, they can be paired with jeans, dresses, skirts, just about everything you can think of. You can add a different vibe to your outfit by adding a colored or studded pair. Flats not only look cute, but they can be a welcome change from shy high stilettos providing much needed relief for your feet.

I love wedges, they are extremely versatile. They are a must have because they have the ability to add casual sophistication to any outfit. Wedges come in a variety of colors, styles and design, making it super easy to add that extra oomph needed to create a spectacular outfit. The heel and platform of wedges are wide and thick, making it easy for high-heel-challenged-walkers to be able to balance and walk comfortably and confidently.

Black/Nude Pumps

Black/Nude Pump

Every professional and non-professional woman should have a nude of black pump. It is as necessary as the little black dress. A black or nude pump gives that polished ladylike look that is essential for work, a business meeting or an interview etc. Black/nude is versatile as it can be paired with virtually anything. It is argued that nude is the new black, but I beg to differ. Although it is hip and stylish, a nude shoe in my opinion cannot replace a black one. Black is an all time classic. If you can afford to have both, way to go, but if you are to choose one, black is the way to go.

Fabulous Red Heels

Red Heels

OMG! I love red shoes, especially red high ones. They to me represent the sexy confident woman, although I do not own a pair…yet, a red high heeled shoe is the shoe to be worn when you want to turn heads or just feel confident, feminine and damn sexy. Red heels are essential as it super versatile; it can be paired with almost anything. Red can also act as the perfect accent color esp. for black & white, black, and white outfits.

Flat Sandals

Every woman needs a flat sandal. A flat sandal is essential for those casual, no-hassle days. They are perfect esp. for summer or when you want to show off your new pedicure. A flat sandal can be paired with a dress, jeans, skirt or just about everything in your closet. Flat sandals come in a variety of colors and styles, so you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort. With the variety of styles available, you are able to demonstrate your chic, effortless style wherever you go.

Cute Casual Sneaker

 Cute Sneaker

This one is a must have for those rough, not-so-cute days, or for those days when you just want to go low-key, or for the days when your pedicure is less than desirable (we all have those :)). A cute casual sneaker like Converse or All Stars can add a chic, boyish vibe to your outfit. It is perfect for football games, a supermarket run, a rainy day or just to go strolling in your neighborhood. A casual sneaker can be worn by anyone and can be paired with jeans, leggings, short shorts or skirts.

The Freakum Shoe

In the words of Beyonce, “every woman should have a freakum dress”! Since we all need a freakum dress, it is only logical to have a freakum shoe!..A freakum shoe is that show stopper shoe you pull out when you want to go hard, to impress someone or just to show-off your fabulosity!…A freakum shoe is essential for every woman. This shoe should be a special shoe; it should be the shoe in which you feel your sexiest. In it, you are your most confident, fabulous self. When you put this shoe on, you should own it! You should feel like you are on top of the world…so you can get your freakum on!…naturally! 🙂

Be Inspired: Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou is fast becoming one of my favorites. Her pieces are relatable and very inspiring.

To all the ladies out there who are feeling down, inadequate or just in a bad place, this poem is exactly what you need…read and be inspired!

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I Hope you felt as inspired and empowered as i did.

Song of the Week: All of Me by John Legend

I am one of those women who have a dream wedding all planned (don’t judge! :))…I have the dress, the venue, the cake, how I would do my hair, the bridal party colors and most importantly, what shoes I would want to wear!..I have already started picking out songs to add to my wedding day playlist (I leave nothing to chance :)) Music to me is very important, it creates the mood, and helps to make a perfect day even more perfect.

My wedding day playlist so far, has about 10 songs, the latest addition is All of Me by John Legend.

I love John Legend, I love his smooth delivery and his ability to let you drift away with his songs. John Legend has arguably one of the best voices in R&B today. He to me, is like the modern day Marvin Gaye, he creates songs that are very emotional, sexy and romantic…

The song is dedicated to John’s wife Chrissy Teigen, it is very touching and romantic, it may bring a little tear, so watch with caution. I love this song because it is a great love song, it encapsulates everything one would want to say and hear…

So……..Hereeeeee’s John!…

Lying: Do You, Or Don’t You?

A very wise person once told me, “a person will hate you for many reasons; they will however despise you when you tell the truth”. It is always easy to tell a little white or whatever color lie there is, to hide something you don’t want known. You may lie to cover yourself, to hide something you did wrong or to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, (like a co-worker and I were talking, and she was like “why are you like that? it’s like you don’t care about what I’m saying”….The truth is, I DIDN’T give a hell about what she was saying, I just wanted her to get out of my office…but being the ‘proper’ person I am, “I said no man, nothing like that” I didn’t mean to lie, but I know she would hate me if I tell her what I really felt)…

…Lying of varying degree is necessary in today’s society, if we go around telling people how we really feel, we would have no friends, and our families would avoid and despise us!…We have to lie,..Sometimes. We have to hide how we really feel to have an easy life…Some persons however are pathological liars. They lie through their teeth, and a lot of the time, for no good reason. Those are the persons I cannot stand. I hate being lied to! As much as possible, I avoid lying, it is too much work,…lying is a full time job!….

…So which liar are you, are you the pathological kind or the ‘little white lie’ kind? …whichever  you are, always remember…

…Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving. – James E. Faust

Have a nice day 🙂

Delectable Snacks: Raspberry Oatmeal Squares

I love baking, I love the feeling I get creating something from scratch, I love seeing the faces of people when they eat something I made. I have a sweet tooth, I love anything sweet or chocolate-ty. I remember when I first saw the Raspberry Squares recipe, I fell in love instantly. It did exactly what I wanted it to, it is sweet, delicious and easy to make. It is like a spin-off of the Oatmeal cookie. You can make Raspberry Squares when you want something fun to eat, when you have a party, a picnic, for a Sunday evening snack or for when you want to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Want to create this amazingly delicious snack for yourself? Not to worry, I got you!..:

Oatmeal Base:
1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter,room temperature
1 cup (205 grams) light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups (165 grams) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups (180 grams) old fashioned rolled oats, divided

1 cup (240 ml) raspberry jam or preserves (homemade or store bought)

Raspberry Oatmeal Squares: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Butter (or use a non stick cooking spray) a 9 x 9 inch (23 x 23 cm) pan.

Oatmeal Base: In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until incorporated. In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the butter mixture and mix until well combined. Stir in 1 3/4 cups (155 grams) of the rolled oats. Press 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Spread the raspberry jam (preserves) over the oatmeal base. To the remaining dough add the remaining 1/4 cup (25 grams) of rolled oats. Crumble this mixture evenly over the top of the raspberry jam. Bake for about 25 – 30 minutes or until nicely browned. Place on a wire rack to cool and then cut into squares.

Makes about 16 – 2 inch squares.

These are best if made the day before serving. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Be Inspired: Do Things Your Way!

Many persons are in bad places, esp. today in this terrible economy. Dreams coming through the traditional way are very uncertain and highly unlikely. I, like many was a perfect student, I did what I was told, I followed the rules, I never rebelled, I hardly disobeyed my mom, I went to college and got a degree, I work hard, I am not lazy and unafraid to do what I can to accomplish what I want….Having followed the set path, my desired outcome should have been guaranteed, shouldn’t it? I should, having completed university, got a good job, fall in love, get married, have two kids, worked on my body to get my pre-baby weight back; live a great life with my adoring husband and loving well behaved kids!…

That was what I was told, follow the rules and you will have a good life…Well it doesn’t happen like that…AT ALL!!…. 😦

In today’s society, success is measured and accomplished differently. People no longer only get rich or have success by following the rules by going to college etc…People follow their dreams and their hearts and create the life they want, their way. They create their own success and do things the way they want…with no rules!…at least not the traditional ones… With geniuses like Mark Zuckerberg and the talented Beyonce, they didn’t go the traditional route and yet, they have tremendous success. Mark is a billionaire and he dropped out of college, Beyonce never went to college and we all know her success.

So, what are the rule followers and good girls and boys of today to do? Should they give up the traditional route and do what a Beyonce and Mark did? Should we follow our own rules and ditch tradition? Or should we hold out and hope for better?…

Well, I have concluded that we all need an education; education is very important and is sometimes the door opener for many. But, and this is a BIG BUT, don’t expect success to come the traditional way, be prepared to do things differently. Use education as a stepping stone, and a back-up plan. Go open that eatery you were dying to have, create that website that focuses on the different types of snails…be prepared to modify your journey to accomplish the things you want, be prepared to work hard. Find your passion and make a business out of it…and always remember,…

…Life is NOT a remote, you have to get up and change it yourself!
