My Favorite TV Shows

TV shows are the best! I love to watch them! I love the fact that the story develop and expands, unlike movies. There are numerous scenarios which allow the characters to grow and experience new things, and the audience is right there growing and experiencing it with them. TV shows are unfolding stories that are most times relatable. You are able to connect to the characters and the situations they go through, allowing you to see another point-of-view about a particular issue, of which you may not have thought about before.

TV shows does not always portray real life scenarios, they sometimes portray the things we wish you could do, but really can’t. Some are salacious, spicy, dramatic and so very entertaining. The characters do things you only can imagine. The audience can only vicariously live out their wildest fantasies like sex on the beach, moonlight dinners, visit exotic locations, wear expensive clothes and delicious shoes or cursing out someone in the most dramatic way possible (Devious Maids anyone? :)) TV shows are very necessary for us to get through our not-so-exciting lives.

I’m an avid TV watcher so it’s very hard to narrow down my favorites, so I thought long and hard and compiled a list of shows that I know that I cannot live without, shows that impact me on a deep level(sometimes too deep :)), bringing out a little tear, and sometimes a barrage of anger…

Ready?!…Here we go!

As its name suggest, Supernatural is a TV show that focuses on issues related to the supernatural. It follows two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester who are hunters. They hunt just about everything, from vampires (not the glowing twilight ones), werewolf, ghosts, witches, leviathans and demons. In the show Sam and Dean have to contend with being hunters, the burden that comes with saving the world and the fact that they do not have families or any life outside hunting. Supernatural was first aired in September 2005; it is now one of the longest running series on TV. Over its eight years of existence, it never gets boring or predictable; it keeps you on your toes and entertained with every scene.

I love supernatural for many reasons, one, it’s a great show, it fuels my imagination and lets me get a first hand glimpse as to what it would be like if the world was overcome by monsters. Two, Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) is HOTTT! He makes dealing with blood sucking vampires a lot more bearable. He is funny, quirky, cool and super handsome. He is the guy you which you where (if you were a guy) and the guy you want to, but know you should not date! 🙂

Game of Thrones

This show is the best! Where do I start?!…Ok, let’s start from the beginning…Game of thrones awwww…from the first episode it had you up in a knot…The first episode saw Jaime Lannister almost killing a Stark, Brandon Stark (The nerve of that bastard!)…let me rewind a little :)…Game of Thrones is a mythical, fantasy drama set in medieval times, in a land called Westeros. Westeros is divided into seven main kingdoms; Kingdom of the North, ruled by House Stark of Winterfell. Kingdom of the Mountain and the Vale, ruled by House Arryn of the Eyrie. Kingdom of the Isles and Rivers, ruled by House Hoare of castle Harrenhal. Kingdom of the Rock, ruled by House Lannister of Casterly Rock. Kingdom of the Stormlands, ruled by House Durrandon of Storm’s End. Kingdom of the Reach, ruled by House Gardener of High garden. Kingdom of Dorne, ruled by House Martell of Sunspear. All the kingdoms except Dorne fall under the Iron Throne after they were conquered and united by Aegon the conqueror. The King who sits on the Iron Throne and resides at Kings Landing, rule all six kingdoms.

Game of thrones is filled with politics, backstabbing, sex, betrayal, scheming, infidelity, dragons, war, devotion to ones honor and family, white-walkers and so much more, It’s all in a bid to rule the Iron Throne. All of the things stated above are the reasons I love this show so much. I love the scenery; it is filmed in exotic locations all over the world including Northern Ireland, Morocco, Mata, Scotland and Iceland. Game of Thrones is riveting as you don’t know who will be betraying who next; it keeps you on your toes, one scheme and backbiting after the next. The show has gotten one of the most watched and talked about episodes on TV, ‘The Rains of Castamere’ aka ‘The Red Wedding’. Can I tell you, I was in awe, from scene to scene, I’m like, what the hell is happening?! It took me three days to get over it… (I’m not kidding). The Red Wedding was terrible, heartbreaking and extremely depressing and took me as a surprise…but, the one episode that got my stomach and all parts of me in a knot, was ‘Fire and Blood’. It was the episode where the little monster, Joffrey Baratheon beheaded Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark! When I saw the hangman holding up the sword, I’m like no, no, this is not happening, someone is going to stop it, something is going to happen, something is going to prevent Joffrey from doing this..but it didn’t happen!…my mouth was on the floor!…I couldn’t believe it, I was in SHOCK! I still have not recovered…

…’Fire and Blood’ although it was a pain, it was the episode that made me ‘rate’ Game of Thrones even more. The creators and writers are not afraid to go where no one has gone before, they are not afraid to kill of their most beloved and important characters. They make it happen, they make you watch! Even if it is in tears, awe, disbelief or anger.

Scandal! The name says it all. I love this show; I love the ‘salaciousness’ and the fact that the characters are willing to go to any extreme to cover up their dirty little secrets. Scandal centers on a crisis management specialist Olivia Pope and her journey to fixing people’s problems even when she has many of her own. Olivia has a firm Pope and Associates aka Gladiators in suits; they do her biddings, however dirty and illegal. Scandal’s main couple is Olivia and the Fitz (the American President who is married). I love me some “Olitz”. I love their love, I love how she reacts to him, I love how she melts when she looks at him, I love to see the passion in their eyes, when they look at each other, it’s like, nothing else or no one else (including Millie, Fitz’s Wife :)) exist, they are in love, the real passionate kind…when I see him look at her I super impose myself in the scene, it is that addictive, it makes you want to have their love however wrong it is. When you watch, it makes you question everything, your values (why are you rooting for two people who are committing adultery), why you not wearing Olivia’s posh suits 🙂 or whether or not you would go to the extreme to protect/cover yourself.

Scandal is not very different form many shows on TV, it doesn’t employ skills and introduce characters that are new or unrelatable it’s a normal show, but it grabs and holds on to you. It has so many OMG and WTF moments; it is honest, relatable, loveable, and so damn addictive.

The Big Bang Theory

I LOVE me some TBBT! It’s a must see show, it’s funny, witty and very entertaining. The Big Bang Theory is about four nerds, Sheldon (the neediest of all), Howard (the weird freaky one) Raj (the funny one) and Leonard (the cute one & my favorite) who are best friends, and find their lives change when a pretty blonde (Penny) moves next door. The Big Bang Theory is the show you watch when you want a laugh and to learn something new (well, kinda). I can never understand some of the theories they talk about, the Einstein theory, string theory, etc. Mind you, I’m an idiot like penny, but it’s hard to get, the minute I think I get it, I’m like, what?, what the hell did he just say?! :)…

Raj’s inability to talk to women, well up until the end of season 6, Howard’s interesting mother and Sheldon, oh Sheldon in all his ‘weirdness’, makes for an interesting entertaining, must-see show.

Sex and The City

Sex and the City is every girl’s best friend. It’s the modern day women’s guide to dating, shoes and living the single life in style. I have watched all the seasons, and the two movies:). From all that watching, I am able to vicariously live out some of my wildest fantasies, shoes and others ;). Sex and the City is about four friends, Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York (my fav), it follows their journey from young women to grown women, documenting all their struggles, mistakes and challenges, as it relates to men, career, fashion and friendship. The show makes you wish for ride or die friends like Carrie has. No matter what she is going through, however happy or sad she is, her friends are always there for her and for each other.

I watch Sex and the City when I’m down and need to laugh and want to forget my problems or when I need to see some really beautiful shoes. It embodies experiences form almost every type of woman, whether she is traditional, girly and proper like Charlotte, fun and easy going like Carrie, weird, quirky and in-your-head like Miranda or VERY wild and experimental like Samantha. Sex and the City will do it for you, no matter the type of person you are.

Although it is cancelled and ran up to 2004, the issues highlighted are still pertinent to today’s woman; it embodies and deals with the quintessential woman’s problem, whether it is about men, career, family or friendship. The show is relatable, you can see yourself in some of the issues/situations that are dealt with, you feel relieved to know that other women are going through the same things you are going through, and it reminds you that you are not so crazy. Sex and the City is as the name suggest about sex, but it’s also about the woman, her challenges, short comings and her shoes ! 🙂

Be Inspired: Desiderata

The Desiderata was written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann,…Its my favorite poem, hands down. Read and enjoy 🙂

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Hope you enjoyed! 🙂

My Favorite Cocktails (With Recipes)

I love alcoholic drinks, I love to smell and taste it, I however cannot hold it, I cannot hold my liquor at all! :)…but not being able to tolerate high levels of alcohol has not prevented me from loving it…Alcohol has the ability to boost your mood, improve your libido, lower your risk of Cardiovascular Disease, lengthen your life and lower the chance of diabetes etc. Alcohol however, must be consumed in moderation. I’m for drinking alcoholic beverages, but one MUST know their limit, one must know how much one can and cannot hold.

Going to a bar to get the best, latest cocktails, can be fun, but very expensive. To get the awesome taste, and save a few bucks, you can make your favorite drink in the comfort of your home. You have free reign to act silly and consume as much alcohol as you want! 🙂

There are a lot of cocktails that I would love to try, like the Cosmopolitan (made famous by Carrie Bradshaw), chocolate martini and so many others…below you will find a list of and recipes for my favorite cocktails, Happy drinking! 🙂

The Cosmopolitan

I’m an avid Sex and the City watcher (I’ve watched all six seasons, repeatedly!). From watching the show, there is one drink that always pops up, it’s like another character, it is the Cosmopolitan…from watching it being consumed, I cannot help but want to try it, it looks so delicious! If you share my enthusiasm, try the recipe below:

8 ounces (1 cup) vodka
2 ounces (1/4 cup) triple sec
3 ounces (1/3 cup) cranberry juice
1 to 2 ounces (2 tablespoons to 4 tablespoons) fresh lime  juice
4 2-inch orange peels/twists

Add vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and the lime juice to a pitcher then stir. Refrigerate. Then, once ready to serve, pour into four martini glasses and garnish with orange peel/twist. For an extra burst of flavor, peel the orange twist over the filled cocktail glass. This way, the orange oils spray into the glass. [Servings: 4]

The Piña Colada

pinacoladaThe Piña Colada is a fruity drink with a little tang. It is smooth and easy on the palette. The typical Piña Colada doesn’t have a lot of alcohol In it, but you can add as much you want, not too much though, as the flavor may be ruined. I love Piña Colada, If you haven’t yet tried it, or want to relive the taste, here is the recipe:

6 oz light rum
8 oz Coco Lopez cream of coconut
8 oz pineapple juice
4 cup crushed ice

Pour rum, cream of coconut and pineapple juice into a blender with one cup of crushed ice. Blend until smooth, and pour into a Hurricane glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a maraschino cherry, and serve. [Servings: 4]

 Jamaican Rum Punch

rum punch 2

This is one my favorite cocktails, it is easy to make and packs a heavy punch (pun intended :)). The Rum Punch is a Jamaican classic, no party or gathering of any sort is complete without it. Whether or not you are a Jamaica, you can still enjoy this delicious drink. It can be had anytime, anywhere. To enjoy a piece of Jamaica, try the recipe below:

4 cup Bacardi 151 rum
2 cup Myer’s dark rum
1 cup Malibu coconut rum
10 cups pineapple juice
10 cups orange juice
1 cup lime juice
12 tbsp grenadine syrup
ice cubes

Mix all ingredients together in a blender or punch bowl. Pour over ice cubes in any type of glass.

[Servings: 4]

Chocolate Martini – Chocolatini

I love chocolate drinks, the smooth creamy texture is to die for. My favorite chocolate milk drink is Appleton Rum Cream. If it was possible and healthy, I would have it every day…it is that good! :)…It is not possible to buy Appleton Rum Cream all the time, so I make a drink that is just as good as Appleton’s, its Hershey Highway. It is chocolate goodness. If you love chocolate and enjoy alcohol, this is the perfect drink for you:

1 1/4 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream Liqueur

1 oz Vodka

1/4 oz Godiva Chocolate Liqueur

Chocolate shavings for garnish

Pour the vodka and liqueurs into the cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a well-chilled cocktail glass. garnish with chocolate shavings. [Servings: 1]

The Mojito

The Mojito is one of those classic cocktails that all alcohol lovers would have had. The Mojito was originated in Cuba and was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway (that means it is a real classic). I have never had the Mojito before but it’s at the top of my must have list. If you want to see what Hemingway was raving about, try the recipe below:

2 tsp sugar
6-8 mint leaves
Club soda
1 lime, halved
2 oz light rum
mint sprig for garnish

Place the sugar, the mint leaves, and a little club soda into a highball glass. Muddle well to dissolve the sugar and to release the mint flavor. Squeeze the juice from both halves of the lime into the glass. Drop one half of the lime into the glass. Add the rum and Stir well. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Add the rest of the club soda. Garnish with the mint sprig. [Servings: 1]

Hope you enjoyed! 🙂

What Your Shoes Say About You

I’m a Shoeholic! (like many women), I love shoes, I love to wear them, I love to look at them, I love seeing people in beautiful shoes, when I see women (and sometimes men), my eyes go to the feet first!. If it was possible, my shoe closet would look like this:

mariah closet

…But it’s not possible; unfortunately:(…By perpetually looking at women (and sometimes men) in their shoes, I realized that you can tell a lot about a person, by the shoe they wear. I’ve gotten to a point where I can give a little synopsis of a person just by looking at their shoes, and more times than not, I’m spot on…I believe in ‘Shoe-Analogy’…oh wow!, I just coined a word! …or is it a phrase?! :)…!

It may not be called ‘Shoe-Analogy’ but it is believed that you can actually tell who a person is by their shoes…a research was done at the University of Kansas and published in the Journal of Research in Personality, revealed that “people can accurately judge 90 percent of a stranger’s personality simply by looking at the person’s shoes” the research further stated that “Shoes convey a thin but useful slice of information about their wearers, Shoes serve a practical purpose, and also serve as nonverbal cues with symbolic messages. People tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear. The style, value, colour and condition of the footwear can paint a picture of the owner’s emotional, political and other vital personality traits”. The research further revealed that:

1. Obvious clues:

a. Expensive shoes suggest high earners:

expensive shoe1 expensive shoe2

expensive shoe3

b. Flashy, colorful pairs belong to extroverts:

colorful3 colorful2

c. Shoes that may not be new but are immaculate belong to conscientious types.

worn worn1

2. Other clues are less obvious:

a. Practical and functional shoes belong to agreeable people.

basic2 basic3

So it’s a fact that ‘Shoe Analogy’ does exist! 🙂 You can actually tell who a person is by the type of shoe they wear…so, do you see your personality trait being demonstrated above? Do you believe the statements above are true? If you do or don’t, leave a comment, let me know what you think.

Be Inspired: Be Yourself

There is always established societal standards and expectations as it relates to individual behavior, how one should dress, look, the house one should have, the car, the works…I, like most people I know, have been subjected to other people’s opinions of who to should be, how to walk, talk and behave. Many fall prey to other people’s ideals and expectations and loose themselves, their individuality…I am not one of those persons, and neither should you!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect or have everything figured out, I doubt myself sometimes, sometimes I have second thoughts about doing something out of fear that ‘people’ will judge me or think it was silly to make that decision. Sometimes I feel guilty (for lack of a better word), that I am the way I am, I sometimes feel like I should downplay myself to make people accept me more. I sometimes want to live up to people’s expectations and please everyone and make everyone accept and love me…but I found out, that that is not me, that you can NEVER please everyone… I don’t give a hell what people think! I am stubborn and always want things my way, why should I have to modify myself to suit anyone?! I’m fabulous as it is already!…,I should be multiplying myself instead of watering me down…it took me a while to get there, it took me a while to accept my awesomeness irrespective of who want to feel inferior, it’s not my fault I’m ALL THAT! :)…I’m not cocky, I’m confident!, I’m confident in who I am, what I stand for and where I want to go…and so should YOU!…

Don’t let anyone tell you what to do or who to be. Take your time and figure yourself out, you owe yourself that much. The world is made up of many different types of people; don’t rob the world of the awesomeness that is you! Embrace yourself, your flaws, your insecurities, everything that makes you, you. No one thinks, looks (unless you are a twin), or behave the way you do! If someone don’t like you, to hell with them! Not everyone will like you, not everyone will think you are ALL THAT!…The most important opinion is the one that you have about you!…So go, Soar!,……DO YOU! 🙂

Five Amazing Women Who Inspire Me

There are a lot of amazing women in the world, from every race, gender and class, women who have brought a smile to the hearts of many, giving many hope and belief in the possibility of a better future, a better life. There are women who overcome great odds and still manage to come out on top with class and dignity. I love to see women succeed, making it to the top without sacrificing themselves and their beliefs…There are many who I raise my hat off to, but the women below are the ones that have had the greatest impact on me…:

5. Gail Devers

Why Gail Devers you ask?…I am a Jamaican after all, I should innately despise all American athletes…Well I did, I do, I’m not too sure…I know that I do in fact despise ALL non Jamaican athletes at all major championships 🙂 I have tunnel vision when watching and the only event I relax with are the ones with no Jamaicans in it…It’s a lot I know but Jamaicans are passionate about athletics and our athletes…I remember back in the 90’s when she was on top of her game, I didn’t know her name, but I remember being very upset when she would win every race over Merlene Ottey, I remember thinking who the heck is this chick with her monster nails, cant she trip or something, Merlene needs a Gold medal! :)…ok, let’s go back to Gail…I first heard about Gail Devers when I was watching TV one boring Saturday evening, and a Lifetime movie came on, “The Gail Devers Story” it depicted her life, her struggles and accomplishments. The movie was about her being on top of her game and all of a sudden being diagnosed with Graves disease, a thyroid disorder. I remember watching the movie and feeling very emotional, inspired and motivated. She almost lost her legs, she struggled, everyone gave up on her, but she never gave up on herself that takes guts, strength, conviction and an unwavering belief in herself and her abilities. That was about 10 years ago,…I never forgot.
Gail Devers:

    • Won the Gold medal and sets national record in 100-meter hurdles at the World Track & Field Championships in 1999.
    • Won Gold medal in 60-meter dash at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships – 1993
    • Won Gold medals in 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles at World Track & Field Championships, the first woman to do this in international competition in 45 years – 1993
    • Named one of two top athletes in 1993 (along with fellow track and field star, Michael Johnson) by the U.S. Olympic Committee – 1994.
    • Won the 100-meter hurdles at the World Track & Field Championships Gold medal in 100-meter dash at the 1996 Summer Olympics, becoming only the second woman in history (the other is Wyomia Tyus) to win back-to-back Olympic Golds in the 100-meter dash; also won a gold medal as part of the 4 × 100-meter relay at the 1996 Olympics – 1995-1996.

Gail Devers inspires me because of her spirit, her drive, her innate need to succeed and her never-give-up spirit. She is a person who has risen to the top overcoming unbelievable circumstances. She never accepted defeat, even though she was at her worst, she fought for what she wanted regardless of the nay-sayers. Gail made me realize that success doesn’t come without failure or adversities, that one has to go through downs to be at the place and the person one is meant to be.

4. Fae Ellington

Fae Ellington! She is as Jamaican as you can get! She is in my view, among the Jamaican greats such as Bob Marley, Usain Bolt and Loius Bennett. From all the famous persons on this list, she is the only person I have actually met,…I was an impressionable 4th former, I was a part of the debate team in High School (I was bit of a nerd), we went to a debate workshop, they promised a surprise guest speaker, in my mind I was thinking “I hope it is a celebrity!”, I have never met a famous person before, I was excited…when they said Fae Ellington, I was like…”YES”!…I finally get to meet her, and I did, I even got an autograph (Yeah me!)…Fae Ellington is a dynamic speaker, she speaks with crisp and clarity she is a strong Jamaican woman who has overcome great adversities and risen to the top. She is one of the few Jamaicans who have embraced the Jamaican Patois, even before it was popular or cool. She has embraced every aspect of the Jamaican culture, she accepts who she is and her culture in its entirety.

Fae Ellington:

    • Received the Order of Distinction, Officer Class in 1998
    • Received the Musgrave Bronze Medal in 1998
    • Received the Best Dirrector nomination, Actor Boy Awards for Who Will Sing for Lena -2005

Fae Ellington is an inspiration to me because she has shown me that you can have a full productive life after severe personal trauma, Fae was raped in 1981. She wasn’t afraid to share her story, she was strong and fearless, she showed women that we do not have to suffer in silence, even after such a horrendous, heinous act,. I raise my hat off to the strong resilient woman that she is.

3. The Most Honorable Portia Simpson Miller O.N., M.P

When I think about The Most Honorable Portia Simpson Miller O.N., M.P, Jamaica’s first female Prime Minister, the words, strong, determined and resilient comes to mind. Mrs. Miller is a true representation of the broken ‘glass ceiling’. She is a formidable woman with drive, tenacity and the ability to overcome adversities. She is from ‘humble beginnings’ as she puts it, she has a caring, kind, loving demeanor and can relate to almost anyone, giving them her signature kiss :).

Mrs. Miller’s political career began in 1974 when she joined the People’s National Party serving as a member of the City Council of Kingston; she later became a Member of Parliament in 1976. She has served as Minister of: Labor and Welfare, Sports, Social Security and Sports, and Tourism. Her first Ministerial appointment was as the Minister of Labor, Welfare and Sports in 1989.

Mrs. Miller:

    • Was named as one of Time Magazine “100 Most Influential Persons in the World” in 2012.
    • Is Jamaica’s first female Prime Minister.
    • Received the Bureau of Women’s Affairs Award for outstanding contribution to the advancement of women’s affairs in Jamaica.

Mrs. Miller inspires me because she reminds me that it doesn’t matter where you are from, it doesn’t matter your financial or social situation, you can be whoever you want to be with hard work, determination and a never-give-up spirit. Mrs. Miller is an unpretentious, real woman who doesn’t apologize for who she Is, or where she comes from. I may not support her political party or agree with the direction in which she is taking my country, but I can support and raise my hat off to the fabulous, formidable, tremendous woman that she is.

2. Beyonce

People who know me, know that I’m a bit of a Beyonce fanatic, I love her style, her music, how she carries herself… I know every song, every album, I’ve watched all her movies (even Carmen: A Hip Hopera :)), I know every milestones – from Destiny’s Child to now (Don’t judge!). She is the epitome of the modern day woman: she looks fabulous, she is independent, she has a family, she has her own business, and she does things her way.
You have to be living under a rock for the past decade to not know who Beyonce is. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She is a dynamic performer, a sweetheart, a stellar musician and a philanthropist.

Beyonce is the:

    • First and only female artist to ever headline England’s Glastonbury Festival (World’s biggest Greenfield music and performing arts festival and a template for all the festivals that have come after it.).
    • First international female artist in history to have an album – I Am… Sasha Fierce be certified 2x Diamond in Brazil.
    • 1st black musician last decade with a Vogue Italia cover.
    • First female artist ever to win EMA’s Best video award.
    • Artist with the most weeks at #1 on Pop Radio chart this decade.
    • 1st and only black artist in history to cover Forbes Magazine.
    • Youngest artist to ever be awarded with Legend Award at the World Music Awards.
    • Female artist with the most Grammy nominations ever with 41.
    • Black female artist with the most magazine covers ever (over 300).
    • Female artist with the most viewed video ever – “Single Ladies” with over 520 million views.
    • First and only woman to have a single and album simultaneously topping the main charts in both the U.S. and the UK (2003).
    • First African-American female and second overall female to win the “Songwriter of the Year” award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers Pop Music Awards (2001).
    • And the list goes on.

Beyonce inspires me for all the reasons stated above and the fact that she is a go getter. She doesn’t settle for mediocre, she is willing to work her ass off to get what she wants. She inspires me because she lets me see that any and everything is possible once you are prepared to put in the work. She isn’t afraid to be sexy, she is not afraid to be who she is and embraces herself “flaws n all”. She reminds me that a woman can indeed have it all, a Killer body, a fabulous family and a Rocking career.

1. My Mommy

She is not a famous person, she does not have a fancy list of accomplishments, she is not known and loved by millions, she is however loved and adored by me. She is my mom. Mommy is a very hands on mom, she will call endlessly just to make sure that we close a window (even though we don’t need her to do that), she will call me at work and dare I not answer because she will call and call and call, until I answer, sometimes she just have a simple question like what time are you coming home?! My mom is the epitome of strong and resilient. She has overcome so much and at the same time being the very best mother to her kids. My mom will and have given her all just to make sure that we are ok, she will move mountains if it means providing a better life for us or even getting a text book that we need. She has sacrificed so much just to make sure that her kids have a better life than she did…she is the best mother ever, she is selfless, caring (sometimes too much 🙂 ), considerate, strong, reliable, helpful, loving… I cannot fathom my life without her.
